Aromatic 2012 (Update!)

I hung all my paintings for Artomatic 2012! I still need to add labels and business cards to my space, but the paintings are up. The show opens in Crystal City on May 18. Click here for details.

All of the paintings that I'm showing at Artomatic are currently up on my Etsy shop for $150.  They're all 22' x 28" and ready to hang. Check out my Etsy shop for more details.

Here's a quick preview of the paintings you'll see at Artomatic 2012:

All of my paintings are located in a brightly lit room on the fourth floor. Here's a map you can use to find my wall, but if you have questions, contact me!

New story published: “Science!”

In Bantam is a new lit zine featuring fiction, non-fiction, poetry and visual art. The first issue was published today, and it includes one of my stories, "Science!" Good times. Feels great to see a new story online for the first time in a while!

Artomatic 2012

I registered to participate in Artomatic 2012! Long story short, Artomatic is a month-long exhibition where more than a thousand artists take over an 11-story building in Crystal City to show paintings, sculptures, movies, and just about everything else you can think of. It will run from May 18 to June 23. Check out this article from the Washington Post -- it does a much better job of describing it than me!

On 4/21 I attended orientation to get my first look at the venue. It's HUGE! I was able to select a space where my paintings will be displayed, and after wandering around completely overwhelmed by the options I eventually fell in love with a nice, brightly lit wall in a room on the Fourth floor. Here's a map of the fourth floor that shows where my wall is:

What first attracted me to this space is the MASSIVE hallway outside. Check it out!

Can you imagine how cool that hallways is going to look when it's full of people and art? Originally I thought it would be cool to get a space on one of those walls, but most of the spots were already full and I wasn't too keen on the columns and stuff. Then I stumbled into this one room -- it's really sweet! It has these big windows overlooking the courtyard. The wall is clean and in good shape (some of them are a bit banged up) and the lighting is great (some of the rooms were more dimly lit than others). Here's what it looks like:

It's about 13 feet wide by hmm...8 to 9 feet tall. Something like that.  All of my paintings are 22" wide by 28" tall, and I want to stuff as many in here as I can fit. I'm thinking two rows of 6. It is gonna look pretty intense when this wall is like jammed with paintings! I need to sit down, do some math, and sketch out a plan.

Here's the view from one of the windows:

Cool right? I know windows aren't like a bit deal in an art show, but I was excited about them anyway. They gave the room a lot of positive energy!

Finally, here's a quick video I did. It starts in the hallways just outside the room, then it goes into the room and approaches my wall, then i back away from the wall, walk into the hallway and head toward the elevators.

Anyway, I'm excited! Installation starts soon, so pop back here in a few weeks and I'm sure I'll have more photos ready of the wall coming together!
